BMS Students spread Christmas Joy through Toys for Tots
By Becca Peachey
Each year, during October, November, and December, toys are collected world-wide for an organization called Toys for Tots. These toys are then distributed locally where the campaign in conducted. The main goal for the Toys for Tots organization is to deliver a smile to the face of underprovided children through a new toy.
This year the Belleville Mennonite School Senate organized their own Toys for Tots drive. Boxes were placed in each homeroom for classes to bring in new, unwrapped toys. The senior class was clearly the winner, even though there was no running competition. Senior Danielle Strauser stated that she felt like the organization was an easy way to give back to the community and a great way to spread God’s light.
A total of approximately 190 toys were collected among the participating classes and distributed in Huntingdon County to kids ages newborn through high school. Mrs. Angela Breon, advisor of the high school senate, commented that this year’s toys drive was a great success and next year the goal will be to double it.
