Race for Education

It is once again time for the Race for Education at Belleville Mennonite School. This is the school’s fundraiser that is centered around the student body’s participation. During this time students are encouraged to involve themselves in numerous ways to help raise money for the school. This week the students were asked to bring in their labels for the race. Each student is to bring in at least ten labels, which are the names and addresses of close friends and family members. After the labels are turned in, the students then write sponsor letters to each of their addresses. These letters are then sent out by the school. The sponsors can give a flat donation or a dollar amount for every lap the student runs. These donations are tax deductible for the sponsor. After the letters are returned the students will race around the gym for an hour and keep track of how many laps they run. Students are encouraged to bring in as many labels as possible. If every student brings in their labels on time, the class will win a pizza party to celebrate. Students are rewarded individually as well. For every five labels brought in a student can choose a homework pass or a snack card. Then for every fifteen labels brought in a student will receive an ice cream card that can be used at lunch time. Students are not the only ones contributing. Teachers and staff are encouraged to get involved as well. Teachers help out their homeroom classes by bringing in their own labels. This way students receive encouragement from fellow classmates and teachers as well. This year the goal for the race is $55,000. This money helps the school fund numerous activities like Instructional Budget, Student Services, Library Acquisitions, and Technology.
