Each quarter a goal of the Belleville Mennonite School Senate is to sponsor some form of outreach and encourage the high school to participate along with them. The third quarter’s mission was a food drive, with all proceeds going to the Hands of Grace food ministry in Mount Union. Boxes were placed in each homeroom to donate nonperishable food items. To the Senate’s delight the boxes were quickly filled.
Hands of Grace is a food outreach in the community of Mount Union. It is held every third Saturday of the month at Grace Covenant Church in Mount Union. Currently, there are over one hundred regular beneficiaries who participate. During each Hands of Grace, a worship service and prayer time is held to get involved with. There is also a chance for parents to take a break with a great kid’s ministry available during the service. Following the service, all are invited to take a given amount of food, which is donated by local organizations.
Danielle Neff, a senior at Belleville Mennonite, attends Grace Covenant Church in Mount Union and is involved first hand in this outreach. She appreciated the Senate’s want to be involved. Neff finds the program to be “an amazing ministry because it not only provides food for their physical needs but their spiritual needs as well. Also if the recipients are in need of a home church they are always welcomed to come to the Sunday and Wednesday services.”
