The Belleville Mennonite School fifth grade class, under the direction of Mrs. Angela Yoder, culminated their month long Civil War assignment by: dressing as a Civil War character who had been assigned to them at the beginning of the month, making hardtack a common food for a Union soldier, building a shelter "pup tent" from canvas and sticks, doing three reader theaters based on the Civil War, and presenting their Civil War projects to the public. The class picture shows the many and varied characters portrayed, including two "southern belles" attired in the traditional hoop skirted dress. Mrs. Yoder commented, "the kids had a great time and learned a lot. They did a super job this year."
