Student Senate

Article 1
NAME
The name of this organization is the Student Senate of
Belleville Mennonite School.
Article 2
PURPOSE
The purpose for this organization is to plan work projects, student activities, be a forum for student opinion, promote school spirit, encourage leadership and spiritual growth
and commitment.
Article 3
MEMBERSHIP
The Student Senate will consist of two representatives from each class, grades 9-12. One advisor will be appointed by the administration and the student members of the Senate.
Article 4
ELECTIONS
Section 1. The president and vice-president will be a
member of either the Junior or Senior class.
Section 2. The Treasurer and Secretary can be a member of
the Junior, sophomore, or freshmen classes.
Section 3. Nominations and elections will be taken and
voted on in the beginning of the year by the members of the
Current Senate.
Article 5
DUTIES
Section 1. The president shall preside over Senate
meetings, cast the deciding vote in the event of a tie, and
provide leadership for the Senate.
Section 2. The vice-president will assume the duties of the president in his/her absence, and will serve as chairman of the school improvement committee (Article 6; Section 5)
Section 3. The secretary will take minutes of each meeting,
be responsible for distributing and reading the minutes of
the previous meeting at each Senate meeting.
Section 4.The treasurer will be responsible for all
financial matters pertaining to the Senate. And must
present a monthly report to the Senate.
Article 6
ORGANIZATION
Section 1. The Senate Organization will consist of the
following leadership committees:
Religious Life, social and project, and school improvement.
These committees will be composed of Senate members.
Section 2. The Religious Life committee will assist in
helping organize one chapel a month with the help of other
students from the student body and organize student prayer
meetings.
Section 3. The Social Committee will plan at least one
social event in each semester and sponsor any inter school
tournaments or activities.
Section 4. The School Improvement Committee will plan
special days and activities throughout the year, promote
school spirit, and help improve school appearance or
maintenance to make our school a more comfortable setting
for students.
Section 5. The leader of each of these groups shall make up
a senate representative group that will report to the
School Board at each of their meeting.
